Pregnancy and Child Health

This includes the insertion of coils (IUCDS) and Implanon. Please download the check list at the bottom of this page to see if this is suitable for you. You can also read about coils on the Chalmers Sexual Health Centre website.

You can self refer to book an appointment in advance for a coil fitting at Chalmers Centre or another Local Sexual Health Clinic by telephoning 0131 536 1035 - read more here.

You can self refer to Chalmers Centre for vasectomy and can read about the process here(Please note - if you suffer from urological problems, you should speak to your GP in the first instance)

Emergency Contraception

A copper coil insertion is the most effective form or emergency contraception if fitted up to five days after unprotected intercourse and is ten times more effective than the morning after pill. Please speak to reception to arrange a telephone appointment, either with us, or other sexual health drop in centres for a coil fitting or other suitable treatment. 

Termination of pregnancy 

You can self refer to Chalmers Centre by telephoning 0131 536 2454 between the hours of 9am and 3pm Monday to Friday. Please ensure you are able to speak privately when you call. You will be asked for some personal details relating to your appointment. Please read all about termination of pregnancy services here.

Antenatal Clinic

The midwifery team provide health care to pregnant women and offer a full range of clinics and advice. They can be contacted by calling 0131 537 9886.

Health Visiting Team

Weekly clinics are run by the health visitor. They provide a child health surveillance programme for families with pre-school children. Parents/guardians are sent appointments for their immunisations and checks by the team. The team are available on 537 9903. 

School Nursing Team

As well as vaccinations and height and weight checks, the School Nursing Service also offers additional support such as with Emotional Health and Wellbeing and Child Protection. Read more on their website

Community Vaccination Team 

Administer all baby and childhood vaccinations. If you miss a vaccination appointment or need to reschedule, please telephone the team on 0131 446 4295.
