A variety of local services can help with your mental health.

Primary Care Mental Health Nurse

We have our own Primary Care Mental Health Nurse, Dee Baird, here in the practice. Appointments can be booked in advance with her. 

Midlothian Access Point

The Midlothian Access Point is open to people aged 18 to 65 who are registered with a GP in Midlothian and who are looking to improve their mental health and wellbeing.

It is run by Health in Mind and they can:

  • Ask about how you are feeling and how it is affecting your life
  • Offer information about local groups, services and activities that can help
  • Refer you onto support that will work best for you
  • Assist you to access this support, if needed

Appointments are carried out over the phone and face to face. It’s important for you to have a safe, confidential space for phone appointments. Morning and afternoon appointments are available Monday-Thursday.

To arrange an appointment, please telephone 0777 956 5607. You may be asked to leave a message, in which case please leave your telephone number and a member of the team will call you back.

Midlothian Mental Health and Resilience Service (MHARS) (Midlothian Health and Social Care Partnership)

If you live in Midlothian, are aged 18-65 and are overwhelmed, suicidal, in distress or in crisis and need support with mental health and wellbeing then telephone MHARS on 0800 118 2962 between 8am–10pm, 7 days a week.

You will have a short confidential conversation about your needs and will then receive a call back within an hour from an appropriate Mental Health and Well Being Practitioner.

For those aged under 18 or over 65, please contact our practice if you are dealing with a mental health emergency.  

Midlothian Wellbeing Service

Midlothian Wellbeing Service support people living with long term health conditions or facing challenging life situations.

Wellbeing Service Practitioners make use of consulting rooms in our practice for one to one support and coaching. The service also runs group courses that you can attend in Midlothian - please download the leaflet at the bottom of this page for more information, or visit their website https://www.thistle.org.uk/support-in-midlothian

Referrals can be made by GP surgery clinicians including GPs/nurses/physiotherapists/ pharmacists/health visitors and secondary care clinicians. The waiting time from referral to first appointment offered is usually 3 weeks from receiving the referral.

The service has an inclusive inclusion criteria but they are not able to provide the service to people who are in a mental health crisis or who are seeking a mental health diagnosis or treatment.

Feeling Good - Positive Mindset App

All NHS Lothian patients have free access to the Feeling Good app. It is an easy to use audio app to help you overcome stress, low mood, and worry, and sleep better too! Please click on the Feeling Good App Instructions below to set this up on your mobile phone or tablet.
